RCEP COURSE · FAA P-628 & P-628-R SPECIFICATIONS (FORMERLY FAA P-608 & P-608-R)

P-608 IS BECOMING P-628

Here's what it means for your airfield and your budget.

A free one-hour course from Asphalt Systems Inc. Learn what changes when P-608 and P-608-R become P-628 and P-628-R in FAA AC 150/5370-10J, where each version of P-628 goes, how to set application rates, and how the Concentrate version can hold a pavement in service for years instead of rebuilding it now.

Watch when you want. Certificate on completion. 1 PDH for licensed engineers.

Who should take
this course

If you own, manage, maintain, design for, or fund airfield asphalt pavement, this hour is for you.

Airport managers and maintenance staff.

Know what your consultant means when the spec numbers change, and what the Concentrate version could do for the pavements you can’t afford to rebuild yet.

Consulting engineers and spec writers

Update your maintenance programs and bid documents with confidence, and earn 1 PDH doing it.

State DOT
aeronautics staff

See how other states are using the spec, including the Concentrate version on severely aged pavements.

DOD and FAA
pavement specialists.

Get the FAA side of a treatment family you already know from UFGS 32 01 13.63.

You don’t need an engineering license. Anyone can take the course and receive a certificate of completion.

What you'll learn

Three learning objectives, as registered with RCEP:

1

Learn FAA P-608 is becoming FAA P-628 (and includes the “heavier” emulsion and aggregate application rates from P608H) and P-608-R is becoming P-628-R.

In plain terms: what’s changing, what isn’t, and what to update in your pavement maintenance program and bid documents.

2

Learn where the different versions of P-628 (i.e., 1:1 Dilute, 2:1 Dilute, Concentrate) and P-628-R go and how to dial in the right application rates.

In plain terms: which version fits a new pavement, a good pavement, a weathered or raveling one, a grooved runway, or a nighttime work window, and how a Sand Patch Test sets the rate.

3

Learn the unique use case the Concentrate version of P-628 offers airports (i.e., delay costly rehabilitation) and how to qualify pavement candidates.

In plain terms: when a structurally sound pavement with a low PCI can be held in service for years instead of rebuilt now, and how to tell whether one of yours qualifies.

Course outline

About 60 minutes of narrated video in seven short modules. Stop and come back whenever you need to.

3 min1Welcome and objectives

The RCEP notice, the three objectives, and why P-608 is becoming P-628.

10 min2The problem and the solution

Why asphalt surfaces age faster than owners want, and what an anti-aging treatment does.

8 min3Thirty years of results

FAA, DOD and state DOT aeronautics projects from 1996 to today.

15 min4Why the treatments work

Construction seals, keeping good pavements good, weathering, raveling and FOD, nighttime work, needing less material over time, cradle-to-grave LCAs.

7 min5The Concentrate version (formerly P608H)

What it is, what it does, and how it’s applied in one pass.

12 min6Where and where not to put each treatment

The guidance tables, the Sand Patch Test, application rates, and edge cases.

5 min7Assessment and evaluation

Ten questions with instant feedback, then a two-minute program evaluation.

Questions

Yes. No charge to register, watch, take the assessment, or receive your certificate.

No. Anyone can take the course and receive a certificate of completion. If you hold a PE or another engineering license, you can request 1 PDH when you finish.

Many state licensing boards accept RCEP credit. Requirements vary by state, so confirm with your board before relying on it.

AAAE's continuing education program lets accredited members self-report relevant training from outside AAAE, generally at one credit per instructional hour. Keep your certificate as documentation and confirm current rules with AAAE's accreditation department.

Pavement maintenance projects can be AIP-eligible at nonprimary and non-hub primary airports when the FAA approves them, and Grant Assurance 11 requires a pavement maintenance management program for federally funded pavement. Ask your consultant or your FAA Airports District Office about your airport.

Anytime, 24 hours a day.

Yes. Your confirmation email has a personal link that brings you back to the course, and your progress is saved.

Retake it as many times as you need. The passing score is 7 of 10.

No. Asphalt Systems Inc. is the provider. The course isn't an FAA publication and doesn't carry FAA or RCEP endorsement.

RCEP requires name, email and mailing address to report credit and issue certificates. We ask for it once, when you've finished.

Please do. Each person registers individually so each one gets a certificate.
